Man found shot to death in Fairfax park

By Tom Jackman

A 19-year-old man was found shot to death in a Fairfax County park Sunday afternoon, and police are investigating the case as the county's 16th homicide of the year.

Police identified the victim Monday as Jahed Ahmad Babi, who lived with his family in the 5800 block of Parakeet Drive in the Burke area. Parakeet Drive ends at the entrance to Silas Burke Park, and that's the park where Babi was found.

A passerby spotted Babi about 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Officer Don Gotthardt said. The park is a small one, just north of Burke Road and east of the Burke Village Shopping Center.

Police have no suspects, but Gotthardt said investigators "believe it to be an isolated incident," and not a randomly targeted victim. He declined to elaborate, and said he did not know any circumstances of the homicide. Two sources familiar with the case said he had been shot.

Babi's family declined to comment Monday. Babi attended but did not graduate from Lake Braddock Secondary School, Fairfax school officials said. Officials were checking to determine where Babi completed high school.

Early Monday afternoon, Fairfax crime scene and homicide detectives were still at the park, closely examining an area not far from the end of Parakeet Drive. The park has a basketball court, a playground and a flat field, and police were clustered near the field.

Police did not release any information about the slaying on Sunday. Gotthardt said he did not know why.

DATBREEZ be blowin': CRIME HAPPENS "EVERYWHERE".
++++++++++++++++

Except that it happens many, many more times as often in DC and Prince George's, by and to people of color. Why else is 'ending black-on-black violence' such a mantra? It's the *leading* cause of death for a very wide swath of African Americans, even young adult females!!

Would you care to lay odds that the killer in this case is not white? Just askin', since you have raised the issue....

So if you go to the Irish neighborhood or Italian neighborhoods in NYC whats the chance that the criminals in those areas will be Irish or Italian? Why do white people waste their time trying to convince themselves that they are less criminals than this race or that race of people when your own history tells you that you are just as violent and criminal as everyone else? You are thieves, murderers, rapist and child molesters, just like the blacks or hispanics. You can drag out all the convenient stats all you want. You are the wild west, you are the civil war, you are the people who lynched burned and bombed throughout the 20th century and you are the posterchildren for killing your kids and spouses so trust me, white people are just as criminal as everyone else. Just ask the white doctor in Connecticut who lost his family to the hands of two white men. Just look at the cable crime shows and see who has the missing wives and children. White people. So shut up with all the piling on blacks every time one of them happens to be a criminal. You dont take responsibility for every white criminal just because you are white do you?

Only one stat comes to mind: the per capita homicide rate for black offenders in the US: more than 600% higher than the rate for white offenders.

OK, one other comes to mind: black males between the ages of 14-24 represented only 1 percent of the population but committed almost 28 percent of homicides, and their victims were overwhelmingly other blacks.

The original post to which I responded has been deleted by Post censors. I did not bring up race in this discussion; I responded to the racism of another.

As for lumping people together unfairly, I'd suggest to you that black Americans have a lot more experience *doing* that these days that whites do (if you'll pardon this last act of lumping.)

Perhaps, if you're going to argue these things publicly, you can take your lumps and my lumping, too?
