A man who was struck and killed by a truck in a Fairfax County parking lot Thursday evening was identified Friday as Danny Robert Sullivan, 55, of the 3500 block of Moncure Avenue in the Falls Church area.

Fairfax police said Sullivan was walking through the parking lot of the Bailey's Crossroads Shopping Center in the 5800 block of Columbia Pike. Shortly before 6 p.m., Sullivan was walking near the entrance.

Investigators believe that Sullivan, who walked with a cane, tried to step up on the curb, lost his balance and fell backward into a travel lane of the parking lot.

Sullivan was struck by a 1999 Ford box truck driven by a 52-year-old man, who stopped the truck immediately, police said. But Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene. Speed and alcohol were not found to be involved, and police do not anticipate charging the truck's driver.
