Md. man killed trying to make U-turn
A 76-year-old Upper Marlboro man was killed Tuesday when his van was struck by a car as he tried to make a U-turn on Route 301 in the Cheltenham area, police said.
The man, whom police have not identified, was making a U-turn to the southbound side of Route 301 near Frank Tippett Road when he was struck, police said.
An 18-year-old male passenger in his van and the driver of the car, a 57-year-old woman, were also injured, but they were treated at a hospital and released, police said.
The crash occurred just before 11 a.m. Maryland State Police said in a news release that the driver of the van "failed to yield to oncoming traffic."
