Pentagon shooter died of head, arm injuries
The man who opened fire at the Pentagon died from head and arm injuries, according to the D.C. medical examiner.
Thirty-six-year-old John Patrick Bedell approached a Pentagon security checkpoint on March 4 and began shooting. Three officers returned fire, and two of them suffered minor injuries. The officers fatally wounded Bedell, who had a history of mental illness.
D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner spokeswoman Beverly Fields said Monday that the cause of Bedell's death was gunshot wounds to his head and left arm. She says the manner of his death was ruled a homicide.
Fields says Bedell's body was brought to the medical examiner's office on March 4, and an autopsy was done within 24 hours.
