Police make arrest in stabbing of pregnant woman
Police have arrested a Suitland woman in connection with the cutting of a pregnant woman Sunday morning in Prince George's County, police said.
Veronica D. Deramous, 40, of the 3500 block of Silver Park Drive, was arrested Sunday night in Arlington, police said. She is charged with attempted first-degree murder, false imprisonment and other related counts and is being held in Arlington while she awaits extradition to Prince George's County.
Deramous apparently cut and critically wounded the pregnant woman and held her against her will inside an apartment in the 3500 block of Silver Park Drive, authorities said. Police declined to say why.
They said Deramous is the only person expected to be charged in the case, even though a 911 caller had spotted a man chasing the pregnant woman around the apartment complex parking lot with a knife.
The pregnant woman, who was in her third trimester, and her baby are expected to make a full recovery, police said.
