Assault charges for stabbings suspect
A suspect in a series of stabbings in Michigan, Virginia and Ohio has been accused of assaulting jail officers.
Authorities say officers used a stun gun on Elias Abuelazam after he tried to punch a guard at the Genesee County jail in Michigan on Oct. 27. He was arraigned Thursday on charges of assaulting an officer.
Defense attorney Ed Zeineh voiced concern Friday at visible injuries to Abuelazam, who he says was previously a model prisoner.
Abuelazam faces a Nov. 12 hearing to determine whether there's probable cause to send him to trial in one of the three murder cases.
He also faces five charges of attempted murder in Michigan and one in Ohio.
The 33-year-old was arrested in Atlanta in August as he was about to board a plane to Tel Aviv.
