$10M suit in Va. teen's suicide
The mother of a high school freshman who committed suicide claims in a wrongful-death lawsuit that York County school and law enforcement officials failed to protect her son from a bully.
In the $10 million lawsuit filed July 30 in York-Poquoson Circuit Court, Alise Williams claims officials failed to act after she reported in early May that her son Christian Taylor was being bullied by another Grafton High School student.
Taylor hanged himself May 31.
The lawsuit lists defendants as Grafton principal Paul Hopkins, assistant principals Craig Reed and Karen Fahringer, counselor Joseph Erfe and Ralph Hood, a school resource officer and York-Poquoson sheriff's deputy.
County school spokeswoman Betsy Overkamp-Smith said she couldn't comment on pending litigation.
