Citing illegal gambling, Va. raids Moose lodges

Moose lodges in Bedford and Campbell counties have been raided by Virginia officials investigating allegations of illegal video gambling.

Chris Goodman of the Alcoholic Beverage Control office in Roanoke says agents seized three machines from the Bedford lodge, along with $4,500 in cash and a bank account containing nearly twice that sum.

Goodman said the raid at the Alta Vista Moose lodge yielded a similar amount of money. No one has been charged as a result of the raids last week.

The Roanoke Times could not reach anyone with the Bedford lodge, and the Alta Vista Moose lodge declined to comment.
