Cuccinelli wants new grand jury rules
Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli says multijurisdictional grand juries would help combat gang violence in Hampton Roads.
Cuccinelli said Monday that representatives of his office are discussing the idea with local prosecutors, whose support would be needed for such an undertaking.
The Daily Press reported that Cuccinelli made his remarks at the Virginia Sheriffs' Association's annual conference in Newport News.
He said multijurisdictional grand juries such as one covering Richmond and the counties of Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanover allow prosecutors to subpoena witnesses and other evidence from a broader area as dictated by the nature of the crime under investigation.
