Summer trial in Va. officer's death

By The Associated Press

The estranged wife of a slain Orange County police officer will go on trial in his death this summer.

Media outlets report an Orange County judge on Friday set a July 13 trial date for 50-year-old Brenda Lee Canosa in the death of 55-year-old sheriff's investigator Bob Canosa.

The Madison County woman is charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in a felony.

Authorities say Bob Canosa was shot five times outside his Unionville residence on Dec. 11, 2009. He died Dec. 20, 2009, at a Charlottesville hospital.
