Va. safety plans to be announced

By The Associated Press

Virginia Secretary of Public Safety Marla Decker is expected to announce efforts to decrease violent crime, fight gangs and help prisoners re-enter society.

The announcement will be made during Decker's first briefing with reporters Thursday.

Decker is expected to release the results of a coordinated law enforcement effort between local and state authorities that took place recently in Richmond.

She also is expected to announce the formulation of a committee to fight gangs and violent crime statewide.

Decker also will discuss plans for prisoner re-entry and a new juvenile mentoring program.
