Nobody's Laughing
Okay, so the Baltimore Orioles aren't exactly one half of the next great sports rivalry just yet, but they are above .500 after 40 games. Not too shabby.
O's fans are still in pain.
Post columnist Thomas Boswell raves all about it in his latest column: "Before this season, everybody said the Orioles would be a laughingstock. Now, the joke is on them. It's the Orioles, in a scene out of a slapstick circus, who grin when they win, slap hands and, hats up, act like fools. Very happy fools."
The O's may be happy fools, but their fans are depressed. Or maybe they just know how this story is supposed to end:
shanks1: Enjoy it now because it won't last. Angelos has driven me from being a life-long O's fan. I don't wish them well or ill - I've just become alienated and indifferent.
WrongDog: O's always start strong and then fade as predictably as a sunset.
2greekdc: I'm a diehard O's fan, but just wait another month or two and they wlll be the laughing stocks of MLB, as will the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Let's not forget the 2000 season when the O's lost 34 of their final 38 games or the 2005 when they were in first place on June 15. Were the ending to those seasons abberrations? I think not. Just wait a bit and you will see the true colors of the O's.
CantSeetheHD: "Alienated and indifferent" sums up the way I feel about the team, but it doesn't come close to the venom I feel toward Angelos, and I think many actual O's fans in Baltimore feel similarly. . . And, Boz...I know you all at the Post think you still have some obligation to cover the O's, but this is not the Mets and the Yanks. Nothing makes me want to cancel my subscription (yes, I still get the actual paper) like seeing ANYTHING about the O's, let alone a FEATURE EDITORIAL, on the front page of the Sports section, be it above or below the fold. You guys need to cut that cord, Boz.
See what I mean? Indifference, sad cliches, empty threats. . . What will it take to make O's fans happy again, short of a World Series? (I mean, let's get real here.)
