Draft Reaction Redux Redundancy

I was going to write all about the commenter reaction to the Wizards' draft performance, but Dan Steinberg stole my thunder. Just to sum up once again, the response to the team taking "Big Man" JaVale McGee with the 18th pick went something like this:

big daddy: ANOTHER MANUTE BOL..GEEZ,ARE YOU KIDDING ME

The good news for McGee is that he already has two nicknames: JaBust (courtesy of DC Man88) and JaVale McScrub (courtesy of jansjay).

Is it football season yet?

Bonita got up when the sun was nice and warm and got scooped by The Sports Bog.

Alas. It is...thus.
No biggie.

Posted by: Stumped | June 27, 2008 1:33 PM

Ughhh. Hey Lindsay, if I write an entry on something you deem to be of interest, will you include it on the blog? Dead serious.

Posted by: Cart | June 27, 2008 1:34 PM

@Stumped -- it's true. I'm well-rested.

@Cart -- please do.

Posted by: Lindsay Applebaum | June 27, 2008 1:37 PM

Lindsay,

How about Javale McSuck. Or A poor man's Kwame Brown.

This. pick. was. awful.

Posted by: JDP | June 27, 2008 1:59 PM

Bonita, you got the better part of the deal IMO.

(Stumped is not a morning person, I do not adhere to all that "early bird", moral superiority of the morning flim flam)

Posted by: Stumped | June 27, 2008 2:36 PM

I'm not a basketball fan, so what's the consensus on the Trailblazer's deal for Bayless?

Posted by: Stumped | June 27, 2008 3:24 PM

Excellent move, for the most part people agree the Blazers drafted and traded the best last night

Posted by: JDP | June 27, 2008 4:30 PM

The NBA draft was yesterday? I could care less...

(I lost interest in the NBA while in high school after we changed our beloved Bullets over to the wacked-out Wizards [might I add robbing them of their patriotic red, white, and blue colors too])

Posted by: MDNCSkinsFan | June 27, 2008 4:57 PM

The NBA has a draft? Do the J-E-T-S fans show up en masse?

Posted by: P Diddy | June 27, 2008 5:04 PM

Anbody else see WALL*E yet?

Just bought my tickets for The Dark Knight in IMAX. Can't wait for that either!

I have nothing to discuss about the NBA Draft, but in order to keep my Washington Post Points, I need to post one off-topic comment per day.

Beer o'clock on the right coast!

10 Interview Questions for Bonita:

1. Where did you go to school?
2. Did you always want to be a blogger who blogs about people who comment on other bloggers' blogs?
3. Mac or PC? (this is a trick question. If you're a "PC", you're probably still rebooting)
4. Who is your journalistic or blogging hero?
5. Favorite blog commenter? (this is also a trick question)
6. Name three people, living or dead, who you would most like to get terrificly drunk with?
7. Favorite city you've visited?
8. Favorite 'Skins player?
9. Fill in the blank: Dan Snyder is a ____ who likes to ___ the fans out of _____ dollar they have and field a ______ team in the process.
10. Favorite beverage?

Posted by: P Diddy | June 27, 2008 5:18 PM

What's up Diddy? Mind if I cut in here...

#6: Charles Bukowski, John Belushi, Scarlett Johansson.

Actually, I'd like to get terrificly drunk with most people.

Posted by: SMACK | June 27, 2008 5:31 PM

Public drunkenness is my second-favorite activity as well.

Re: 10 Interview Questions for Bonita:

1. Where did you go to school? Maryland, the alma mater of Larry David, Scott Van Pelt and a million kids from Long Island.

2. Did you always want to be a blogger who blogs about people who comment on other bloggers' blogs? No. I wanted to be a real journalist. Things change.

3. Mac or PC? (this is a trick question. If you're a "PC", you're probably still rebooting) My last name has "Apple" in it...but I'll go with PC, only because they're cheaper.

4. Who is your journalistic or blogging hero? Newspaper heroes would have to be Dave Sheinin (best sportswriter today by a mile) and Mike Wise. Internet-wise, it's the Steinbog. Oh, and Chris Cooley.

5. Favorite blog commenter? (this is also a trick question)

I don't even know what a bog is.

6. Name three people, living or dead, who you would most like to get terrificly drunk with?

This is a tough one. I'll go with Judd Apatow (in hopes I can convince him to let me write his next movie), Dan Snyder (in hopes I can convince him to move me to lower-level seats this year) and Mel Brooks, just to pick his brain. I'm not drinkin' with no dead people.

7. Favorite city you've visited?

Toronto. If it were warm, it would be the best city ever.

8. Favorite 'Skins player?

Current: Marcus Washington. Ever: Art Monk.

9. Fill in the blank: Dan Snyder is a [Canadian] who likes to [eat] the fans out of [Mexican] dollar they have and field a [Clinton Portis] team in the process....I was never any good at Mad Libs.

10. Favorite beverage?

Non-alcoholic: Arnold Palmer. Alcoholic: John Daly

Cooley's blog rocks my socks off

Posted by: MDNCSkinsFan | June 27, 2008 8:32 PM

Public drunkenness is my second-favorite activity as well.

Posted by: P Diddy | June 27, 2008 6:02 PM

I think I can vouch for that thanks to the Shabangus... I don't want to ask about the first.

Posted by: Alex35332 | June 27, 2008 10:38 PM

Don't give up on Toronto just yet, Applebog. I have it on good authority that things are getting warmer everywhere.

I sort of would like some clarification on what distinguishes the Crowd Noise from the Steinbog, but then the blur/overlap is kind of funny.

Especially because Steinbog is already so sensitive about the conversation or lack thereof in his comments area, so the fact that a bunch of us are now stopping by HERE to let comments on topics also covered by the Bog... well, that's just extra super awesome.

(I think this is another opportunity for me to drop the prefix 'meta-'. Which has become my shorthand for the appreciable ridiculousness of this WashPo blog incest/cross-referencing/mishmash. I would like a ruling from chRIs LarRY on whether 'meta' is a meme or just a stupid buzzword.)

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | June 28, 2008 2:15 AM

ChRiS LaRrY Quick hits:

- great interview with Bonita P Diddy

- The crowd noise comments are currently more fun than RI.

- While I also love the word "meta" it is not a meme. Now Applebaum's featured commentor questions could have meme potential....

As I said, this is my new favorite blog. And apart from my Facebook addiction, my third favorite thing about the Intertubes.

And I am very, very hungover this morning.

Posted by: P Diddy | June 28, 2008 11:23 AM

I would love to see some in depth analysis of the blogs and why some are successful and others not. I mean why is Maske's so un-loved?

Posted by: Alex35332 | June 28, 2008 6:21 PM

Alex, my theory is that the blogs where the author takes a stand and offers an opinion are ones which generate lots of comments and traffic. As we all know, Jasno is very opinionated and that translates into comments supporting and against him, which quickly evolves (devolves?) into arguments among the commenters themselves.

Maske offers nothing but straightforward news. I suspect lots of people read it, but then they have no opinion on his statements afterwards and therefore do not comment.

I'll take a blog like Jasno's any day, whether I agree with him or not.

As for Bonita's blog, it's just an opportunity for me to populate the Intertubes with my random musings so that the alien civilization that finds our burnt out hole of a planet in 400 years (no doubt caused by the Jenna Bush Administration in 2056) will regard me as one of the great philosopher kings of our era.

Posted by: P Diddy | June 29, 2008 12:02 AM

And you just know the aliens will be surfing the blogosphere using Internet Explorer with ActiveX controls enabled so that humanity's remnants can destroy them by uploading a virus through their browsers...

Everyone knows that both enlightened beings of the present and enlightened beings of the future will be Mac users. Hell, even WALL*E reboots to the Mac sound. In the future, everything will be Mac OS X.

Posted by: P Diddy | June 29, 2008 4:34 AM

Yeah, it's been a long night of drinking, including a friend buying me a bottle of 1993 Dom Perignon (!!!!!!!!!!), and me drinking my weight in Hornitos.

Posted by: P Diddy | June 29, 2008 4:36 AM

That's one expensive hangover P Diddy

Posted by: MDNCSkinsFan | June 29, 2008 2:06 PM

P by then they will be running Mac OS L at least. I mean Mac should have at least 40 updates in the next 400 years.

Programming note: I'm in Atlantic City. Should be back this evening, if there's enough gas money for the trip back.

If not, maybe the AC newspaper is looking for a blogger.

Posted by: Lindsay Applebaum | June 30, 2008 12:05 PM

35332,
I asked the Maske question once, the response I got was something like:

Maske gave up the Redskins beat to cover the NFL. He's dead to me.

Bonita's blog is popular now because her byline says: Drowning out the opinions that don't matter (what's not to like? It's the perfect blog attitude).

F me, I forgot the @!

Anyone doing anything fun this weekend?

I was going to go hang out at my friend's bar, but he decided to close it up after 4 years and go run his aging father's (substantial) business. He's the one who bought me champagne as a thank you for supporting him all these years.

So, now I'm a drunk in search of a bar.

Posted by: P Diddy | June 30, 2008 3:19 PM

Do they have craps in Atlantic City? I went to a bunch of crappy casinos in SE Asia (for whatever reason, Asians apparently LOVE to gamble!) and only one or two had craps. I had to make do with Baccarat.
