Neighbors: Overgrown lot a rat's nest
Who's responsible: D.C. Department of Public Works
Number of votes to fix: 2
While not quite at the level of urban jungle, the vacant lot at the corner of Eastern Ave. and Meade St. in the Deanwood section of Northeast D.C. could definitely use a trim. Neighbors said the four-to-five foot tall grass has become a haven for rats and is a major eyesore for the neighborhood. Pictures show tall brown grass growing into a sidewalk and bus stop in the area.
"D.C. DPW please help," griper Sylvia Brown wrote.
When contacted about the issue, Linda P. Grant, a spokeswoman for the DPW, said a citation has been issued on the vacant lot and DPW has scheduled it for a clearing this week. We look forward to moving this item into the "They Fixed It!" column.
