Walkers: Watch out for these grates in D.C.
Who's responsible: District of Columbia
Number of votes to fix: 3
We've all seen them before: Those rattly sidewalk grates that tremble and shake each time someone steps on them. They look like they could give way at any moment sending an unsuspecting pedestrian down a hole of indeterminate depth.
A griper in D.C. reported two such grates "on the verge of caving in" on Columbia Rd. between the CVS and Safeway in the Columbia Heights/Adams Morgan area. Soon after, another griper named Boo issued a second plea: "Those grates are going to give way any day now!"
The good news is the D.C. government is well aware of the problem. The issue is in the 311 database and crews should be by soon to replace the grates with new ones.
