It's the Council's Own, Uh, Easter Bunny
It's Easter Monday, and for one D.C. Council member that means hosting an Easter egg hunt and appearing as the Easter Bunny, complete with bunny ears and gray and yellow Adidas sneakers.
Harry Thomas Jr., who represents Ward 5, located predominantly in Northeast Washington, said he just wants to show his "lighter side" with some of his younger constituents. Some 400 children were invited to the Easter egg hunt, which Thomas is sponsoring in conjunction with the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation.
During the Christmas holiday party at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center in Northeast, Thomas sported a white beard, a Santa suit and red and white sneakers. He'd dressed as Santa before, including before winning elected office, but this is his first time as Peter Rabbit.
"One thing people forget is kids pay attention to a lot of things," said Thomas, a father of five. "It's very important. It connects them to an image they see on TV as a government image to someone real in the community."
"Actually it's a lot of fun," Thomas said.
The Easter Egg Hunt was held at Fort Lincoln Field and Gazebo, 3100 Fort Lincoln Drive, NE.
