"Daddy" Madison's "House" Staying in D.C.

The trombone's and brass instruments were wailing Sunday at God's White House as hundreds of congregants reflected on the life of Bishop S.C. "Daddy" Madison, who led the District's most affluent congregation for the last 17 years. Madison died Saturday at the age of 86.

While many downtown congregations have moved to more spacious pastures in the suburbs, the House of Prayer has millions of dollars in real estate and sanctuaries in the District, with no plans to leave, church officials said. Besides its community outreach and popular brass bands, the House of Prayer is also known for Saints Paradise, a popular eatery in Shaw for downtown workers.

Apostle H.L Whitner, pastor of God's White House said Sunday that the church will continue Madison's legacy of community involvement and providing affordable housing and other services for it members.
