Budget Approved, Lottery Contract Tabled

The D.C. Council approved the budget in record time today, ending its meeting at 12:29 p.m. Come back to D.C. Wire on details. "Unbelievable," several council members said.

In other business, the council tabled the controversial $120 million contract with new firm, W2I.

So, with a housing slowdown the city increases the tax on property sales? That makes lots of sense--certainly helps the market move houses.

perfect example of backwards DC logic. Must be the council's way of gentrification. of course people won't simply eat this extra cost when buying/selling a home. They add it to the price. After a few sales, more and more middle income residents will no longer be able to afford a home (many are borderline as it is)
PG county better be ready for another increase in population.

I dare not move to Prince Georges, then again, the National Harbor is quite attractive real estate. However, I'll RENT in the District. Decent digs for a decent price, then I have the option to hitting the burbs. I have grown up in urban cities all my life. I am growing tired of the noise (sirens), loud talking, loud music, the nonstop begging homeless, crowded sidewalks, metro buses, aging infrastructure, incessent city ticketing and fees, etc.

Why people gentrified from newly build suburban communities to the concrete jungle I don't know, but my intent is to do the opposite. By choice, not by force. You don't have to FORCE me to enjoy a better quality of life.
