Let's Go Down This Road Again
Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) and council members met for breakfast this morning to hear presentations on smoke detectors, pedestrian safety and other topics.
But somehow, Council member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1), still bitter about the council's decision to keep Klingle Road closed, brought the conversation around to, well, Klingle Road.
"Now, if we only had Klingle...," Graham said to laughter and sighs.
"Muriel will stick up for me," he said, referring to Council member Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4).
Bowser and Council member Carol Schwartz (R-At Large) had joined him in voting for a portion of the fiscal 2009 budget that would have provided $2 million to reopen the road that has been closed for 17 years. The money is now going to create a hiking and bike trail.
Graham said, "The rest of you..."
"The rest of us are right," said Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray (D).
