Local GOP Wants to Hear From You

The District of Columbia's Republican Committee is looking for public input for its party platform.

No jokes please about the relatively small numbers of GOP members in the District. They are drafting the party platform and want to know what you think. Residents can testify today and tomorrow, May 19 and 20, at the DC Republican Committee office, 1275 K St. NW, Suite 102, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The local party has already lined up testimony from several community groups and businesses, including DC Vote, the Mexican American Chamber of Commerce and DC Parents for School Choice.

The local committee plans to submit its recommendations to the GOP's national platform committee in August. So, here's your chance to help influence the GOP's platform.

The sudden shift in priorities that Mr. McCain now speaks of prove that he thinks that we "uneducated" are stupid and that we do not know that he is lying. I don't like politics and he is one of the reasons why. Today...says he.... I am for it, tomorrow, according to what the polls say ...I am against it. This 80 year old woman has been around too long to buy blantant lies.

GOP, here's a free tip. You want to win this election, you need Mitt Romney. He's the only one who can fix the economy. If you take Huckabee as the VP you get nothing. You get people who would never vote for Obama anyway. That's a waste. You need Romney. Focus on what he did in Massachusetts. Focus on what he did in Utah. He's the only chance you have left. His views on the economy are about the only weapon you have to siphon off the more conservative democrats.

The ONLY Way that the GOP will win the election is for W to declare Martial Law and cancel the election.

That's the ONLY Way.

The party platform has zero impact on either party's direction. It's an excercise in giving the faithful the illusion that their inputs matter.

A start would be to stop running smear ads masquerading as policy.

If you don't run on the real issues instead of pretend patriot issues like flag pins, your sunk.

Smear ads against Obama's wife for example are going to backfire and prove your lower than you are already perceived to be by the public.

Put the "conservative" back into Republican structure. No more 3 trillion $ budgets. Start coming back to the middle and negotiate with the Dems. I am tired of the far right and extreme left.

A plan to improve the economy needs to be laid out, one that includes strenthening the dollar. Romney would be a great choice for VP and do well with economic issues. McCain needs to spell out what he plans to do. The assumption is "not much".

Platform for GOP should be:

Secure our borders
Lower taxes (support the Fair Tax)
Cut government spending
Fighting terrorism
Support Conservatism
Support Capitalism
More oil drilling in the U.S. to become energy independent.

Try some of the above items rather than pandering to the left.

McCain and McBush do not represent values on issues that are most important to me, especially illegal immigration. They both have their eyes closed and thumb their nose at the conservative base while we are going bankrupt and losing our borders and language. Time for a major upheaval. I can no longer support the Republican party. Stop asking me for money or using your threats of Hiliary or Obama. McCain is a major turncoat who is old and arrogant. Why the Party annointed him as the next king is beyond me and all of the Republicans I speak with. Totally out of touch. If they only took a look around and saw what was happening, they may gain some insight.

Republicans live in DC? Hmmmm, learn something new everyday.

Posted by: Joe | May 19, 2008 9:23 AM | Report abuse

In 2006, the Republicans lost due to corruption and scandal. It was not the war and it was not the economy. It was simple corruption. Since then, no one has done anything to clean-up Washington. This is why Congress's approval rating is 18%.

The mantra should be to stop spending, focus the war on terror (meaning show how we invest frugally and effectively), and give tax payers their money back.

If there were one thing that could be fixed, its Capital Gains. This type of revenue is income, and most Americas cannot leverage the benefit. It is literally a huge tax break for the rich... the kind of thing that crushes the middle class, validates the Democrat message and chases working voters away from the Republican party. Give everyone an income tax break at the expense of Capital Gains... Trickle-down doesn't work when all of the trickling is done in emerging markets. There has to be a new plan.

PS - Also a weak dollar is good. It slows the bleeding of jobs offshore.

PPS - I understand a major adjustment to Cap. Gains means investment goes elsewhere, so try it in doses. Today's income tax and employment tax are footing the bill on the shoulders of the diminishing middle class.

1. Recognize that your conservatism leads to a mindset that is xenophobic, ideologically corrupt, and power-centric.

2. Find a moral compass that is independent of the words "God", "American", or "Dollar".

3. Comprehend the meaning of "Common Good".

If The Republicans wanted to win, they should have run another candidate.... like say Rudy Giuliani...maybe they polled and found that not enough people would vote for an Italian. The reason John McCain won't meet with controversial foreign leaders is that he is afraid that they will take him hostage..... This is a fear that he has not shed since Vietnam. His idea of fighting in Iraq boils down to let's just keep sending more soldiers until eventually we win. He doe not know the enemy because he has not spoken to him. How does that make him strong on National security ?

Latest news flash... McCain had another dream. He does not become President, so he does not have to deliver on his first dream.
How close can you get ?

Sorry Goopers, I told you four years ago what you had to do: distance yourself from Bush and his failures.

GWB barely won in 2004, and despite that and the steady diet of lies and fraud day after day, the Goopers hugged him even tighter. The more the Goop failed, the more they said to stay the course.

Well, now that the Goop hit the fan, they are desperate for a way to avoid repercussions for their failed policies.

So here's a tip: ditch NeoConservativism. Dump Conservativism too, since that's failed miserably. Ditch the racism. Ditch the intense, visceral, and desperate hatred of anyone who isn't a white anglo-saxon protestant. Ditch the war mongering. Ditch the mysogony.

So in other words... you have to dump everything being a Good Repuke means, since America is tired of voting for a party which represents the very worse America has to offer.

If W declared martial law and canceled the elections, the troops would string him up. He's nowhere near popular enough to pull off a coup. If he thought he could do it, he already would've and in the name of freedom and democracy, "cuz that's the kind of guy he is.

NO JOKES !!!! THIS ELECTION & ALL THREE CANDIDATES ARE A JOKE. WE ARE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE PRESENT & USELESS REPUBLICAN PARTY. THE HARRY REED'S & CLINTONS OF THE WORLD HAVE NAILED YOUR SCALPS TO THEIR TROPHY WALL & FALLING DOWN LAUGHING HOW EASY IT HAS BEEN TO BRING DOWN THIS COUNTRY WITHOUT FIREING A SHOT. THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WILL CARRY THIS SHAME FOR EVER.

The Republican Party is notorious for poor managers of money and business. It shows in the condition of the economy, the size of government, and the quality of American infrastructure as well government services. Their governing by words of ideology and not deeds is self-promotion not representation. While the corporations most supportive of the republican party depend upon this administrations corporate welfare to mask their mismanagement and huge salaries the feudal lords of the party have the agenda to sell every thing that is not theirs to sell in order to gain the power of elected position. A billion dollars in corporate tax relief for a hundred thousand in campaign contributions is not a good deal, it is a steal. The Republican Party is not capable of changing course after so long a time of being addicted to taste of power and the leadership, or lack thereof, has no strategy what so ever to allow America and it's citizens to flourish. They are pirates and vampires harvesting the blood of the nation and burying it off shore.

You have nothing more to offer to the American people. The GOP and its disastrous contract with America was deceitful lie and look at where it has gotten us. Oil men and the wealthy business controlling many facets of this economy have always made greed their priority. It is time for pay back and the wealthy need to see a backlash in proportion with how they have mistreated the American people. They need to feel the pain of losing allot of that ill conceived wealth. Vote Bob Barr the former Republican now a Libertarian Party candidate for President. The Party of the Republican is just about at its end for many which understand the ploy the Republicans are now using you again for selfish greed and lies for their purpose not yours. Please don't be fooled into believing they will change. They will never change their spots of deceitfulness for gain at yours the working men and women's expense.

Some people disabled wont be able to attend. They have no health care, no social security assistance, no gas money, no money to stay at a fancy hotel, no government that can sign a paper into law to aid the elderly, to help the disabled, to take the gouching prices of gas and give it to the poor and homeless. America you should be a shamed of yourself with as rich as it is there should be no one hungry no one without assistance. Shame, Shame on you all..

I am surprised that John McCain and the Republican Party are attacking Mrs. Obama in a commercial. The Democratics should put a commercial about the attack of the USA navy ship LIBERTY that John McCains father covered up. Israel's airforce attacked our top intelligence ship in the open ocean with a clear flying American Flag in the 1960s. It was reported covered up by his father and the crew and families are still waiting for answers!!!
I think when closets are examined it will be interesting to open the McCain's. Is he or has he taken money from the Jewish Lobbies representing Israel??? This should also be investigated. His father put Israel above the USA SERVICE PEOPLE ON THE LIBERTY!!! This needs further investigation as this father of a USA candidate did not stand behind his own country when a ship was attacked!!!

Um, break with the national party and embrace science instead of primitive tribal superstition? Just a thought.

Keep losing if you want though, we've already got a 21st century party in this country, so you'd really be superfluous even if you did that.

I became weary of what kind of monstrosity the GOP had become the last 8 year. This is a party that used to champion small government and individual liberty. Now it advocates big government and state control of our lives.

And I've always been confused, how the heck is taking away our rights to keep them safe from those dang fangled bogeymen we call terrorists make any sense?

Maybe.. just maybe conservatives will have a voice again amongst all them dang rinos. Untill then, we'll nominate that bomb happy liberal McCain (you know, the nut who thinks pork barrel spending is the one thing that's killing our economy).

Hey DC GOP! My consulting FEES are $250 an hour... pretty cheap considering the huge Cess Pool of lousy consultants and scamming political organizations inside the Beltway.

For starters:

1. Stop talking about conservatism and BE conservative. This means:

a. stop policing the world, including Iraq.
b. cut or eliminate forign aid. We are TRILLIONS of dollars in debt, and most aid is squandered anyway

2. PHYSICALLY secure the borders and coasts by all means necessary.

3. Deport all immigrants whose visas have expired.

4. Deport all illegal aliens convicted of misdeamenor or felony offenses.

5. Ditch the "we fight them over there so we don't have to do it here" argument. They are HERE because we have been THERE meddling in their affairs for DECADES!!!

6. Eliminate birthright citizenship

7. Make english the national language. That goes for all public buildings, schools, courthouses, government agencies, etc.

8. CUT government spending by 2% a year for 4 years. If the economy is stagnant, governemnt growth should be as well.

9. get out of Iraq. Remember, it was Nixon who ended the Vietnam War!

I know this is hard to swallow for those RHiNO's (Republicans in Name Only) out there, but give it a shot.

How about treating uys like Ron Paul with respect and not ignoring him when you can and mocking him when ignoring fails. You guys have jumped on the only real conservative in this race like you were attack dogs. The funny thing is that Ron Paul and his supporters are still here and we have all been telling you for quite some time how you can get this back on track. So you can either embrace a true conservative platform or brace yourselves for President Obama!
