Buff 'n' Scrub Round 2 Goes to Fenty

Two weeks ago, we told you about the pushback Mayor Fenty was getting from the business community about his effort to enlist developers for the school system's second summer of "buff and scrub."

Well, the administration held a second meeting about the program today at the Warner Building at 1299 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. A business community source who attended said the meeting was packed and that Fenty won't have to worry about signing up enough developers by the June 13 kickoff. Fenty and Neil Albert, the deputy mayor for economic development, made their pitch during the 50-minute meeting and there was no direct griping from the developers, the source said. Some continued to ask during private conversations why the school system's modernization office could not take care of some of the repairs, but no one dared express that thought directly to the mayor, the source said.
