Political Blogger Shot in Adams Morgan

Liberal political blogger Brian Beutler, 25, was shot and wounded early today during an attempted robbery in Adams Morgan, D.C. police and friends said. He is recovering at a local hospital from gushot wounds to his shoulder and spleen.

Beutler, 25, is a Washington correspondent for the Media Consortium, a network of progressive, independent journalism organizations, said Tracy van Slyke, director of the group. Police said that Beutler and a friend were accosted by two young people, including one with a gun, about 2 a.m. in the 1600 block of Euclid Street NW. The friend was not hurt, and the assailants escaped without taking anything. Police have made no arrests in the case.

Poor Brian Beutler, another victim of DC's overly strict gun laws. Had Brian or his friend a gun, they could have taken care of business.

To John Smallberries - are you aware of how insenstive and self-centered your comment is? To use someone's suffering as an oppotunity to promote yourself is really disgusting. I'll be certain not to vote for you.

Way to go republican

Promote myself, eh? The ban in DC was illegal, and still is. The bloodshed and suffering this man borne is on the hands of the people who passed this ban. I am for the US Constitution, unlike the present DC council and the present Republican administration.

Well, at least you know where I stand, and you may vote accordingly.

Simply ridiculous. So lifting the handgun ban would then somehow compel Mr. Beutler to buy a gun and engage the assailants in a shoot out. This somehow is going to stop the bloodshed?

This kind of political posturing over an unfortunate event and using phrases like "taking care of business" is despicable. Shame on you.

I guess we Republicans don't like criminals who shoot at us. Sorry.

Why is this news not in WTOP, the Express, or anywhere else in the Washington Post website?

John Smallberries is STUP*D. Guess he hopes the fear of things will really get you to vote for him?!?! Alas, Republicans really can't learn anything new... sad. And to think, he makes it seem like other people besides Republicans, want to get shot at. Atleast we know this person will not win an election in DC!!! Let him be a blowhole all he wants on here... he'll certainly have plenty of time! SHAME on him for making this a gun control issue... my guess is within a day he'll respond to this because he is pathetic and has nothing else to do but watch these blogs...wonder what he'll try and say??? LOL

Mr. Smallberries - I agree with you. It would be much better if the people who shot Mr. Beutler were also in the hospital. Better yet would be if Mr. Beutler had killed them and then the police wouldn't have to find them - only call their families to the morgue. God bless the USA and the right to form armed militias!

How to bring an end to gun violence in schools: give every child and teacher a gun and teach them how to use it.

WHY IS NO ONE ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGED at this shooting? We have heard endless comments about Brian's sense of humor, his writings, gun laws, etc etc, but no one seems outraged that this amazing young man was shot...IN THE BACK! I have received several letters from friends and families that live in D.C. saying "Oh, yes, we hear about these shootings every day, but we never think of it as being some one we know". Well, it could be.
I have to tell you, gun law or no gun law,
I don't really care. What I would like is everyone joining in to hunt down the psychopathic kids that shot Brian. The thought of them getting away with a cold-blooded shooting is horrifying...and don't think they haven't done it before and won't do it again...the next time could be someone YOU love, OR YOU. What is happening in D.C.? Please help us find these creatures that shot my nephew. We will not stop until we find them...whatever it takes. They should feel the pain that Brian has suffered...with chest tubes and nose tubes and bullets stuck in him...think about it. Every single person in the district should be enraged that this happens to the point of making people NUMB to the violence.
