Scheduling Conflict: Fenty, Gray to Arrive Late to DNC
As the D.C. Democractic Party gears up for the Democratic National Convention in Denver next month, several elected leaders, including titular party head Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, will be forced to arrive a day after the official start of the convention on Aug. 25. That's the same day that D.C. schools kick off the school year, so Fenty, who has made school reform his top priority, will stay in town that Monday and fly off to Denver on Aug. 26. Same goes for D.C. Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray and some other council members, according to sources who have spoken with them. It's probably not a big loss, as the convention activities don't really heat up until later in the week. The city's voting rights stunt, a trip to the U.S. Mint, and a luncheon, as well as the city's reception party, will be held Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meantime, Fenty appears to have another personal trip lined up for next month to the Olympics, according to Washington City Paper.
