From the Floor: Real People Are Here
Jeff Richardson is the Vice Chair of the District's Democratic Party. He will be attending the Democratic National Convention and will be blogging for D.C. Wire from Denver.
As I stood in line to get a bite to eat, I could not help but listen to the telephone conversation of a man behind me.
He was speaking with a friend and letting him know that he was at the stadium for the speech and proudly boasted that it took him two and a half hours to get into the stadium, and I wanted to share his thought with you.
Here is a quote by 55-year-old David Glaser from Los Angeles, "For the first time in at least a quarter of a century I feel that there is someone running for president who does not just say we can make a difference but someone who I believe will make a difference."
The stadium is full of stories like his.
A volunteer staffing the waiting line for a hotdog was excited that I was here from DC and said it's so worth it that you are here. She has been at the stadium since 9 a.m.
If you can't tell from television, the stadium is packed, and I hear people are still coming. I have never experienced anything like this in my entire life.
Just so you know, the folks in the stands are not party insiders, staffers, or politicos. They are folks from all over the country, with a great deal from across this region. I walked with them from the Pepsi Center to Mile High Stadium. I talked to folks along the way. These are real people.
I just can't believe this!
P.S. This just in! Look for our very own Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4) getting her groove on with the Daily Show. She has some moves, man! Go Muriel!
