D.C. Wire Video: Hollywood Stumps for D.C. Voting Rights
DENVER -- D.C. Shadow Sen. Paul Strauss made good on his promise to get actress Hayden Panettiere on the stump for D.C. Voting rights today. She and her mother appeared at a luncheon organized by Strauss, fellow shadow Sen. Michael Brown and shadow Rep. Mike Panetta at the Crowne Plaza. Also there was actor David Keith, who appeared in the movie "An Officer And A Gentlemen," among other things.
Panettiere told the crowd: "There are no words to describe how incomprehensible it is to me that American citizens who live in Washington, D.C., our nation's capital, have no voting representation in Congress or the Senate. All citizens living in other capitals of democratic countries around the world have representations but not here in the United States. It is literally taxation without representation and isn't that what started the American Revolution in the first place? Representation is the right of every American, so please join me in supporting Washington's right to vote."
Meantime, Brown was trying to up the ante on the star power front, telling D.C. Wire that Dan Rather will be joining him at Investco Field tonight. Brown used to work for the Democratic National Committee and apparently met Rather and maintained a connection and is helping the former CBS newsman with credentials for Obama's big night.
