Schwartz and Mara in a Tight Money Race, Too

Competing media releases have gone out in the money contest between Council member Carol Schwartz (R-At Large) and Patrick Mara, her challenger in the GOP primary on Sept. 9.

Schwartz, a longtime incumbent, has raised nearly $110,000, including a personal loan of $40,356, according to campaign finance reports available online.

Mara says in his release that he has raised more than $100,000.

As they hit the one-month stretch, Schwartz has more than $60,000 in cash on hand while Mara says he has $50,000.

That makes it a close race in terms of dollars. But Schwartz has the backing of the local Republican Committee, which sent out the media release about her fundraising.

The committee takes a swipe at Mara without naming him. The release notes that Schwartz's contributions come mostly from individuals who are District residents and pointing to Mara's June 10th campaign finance report that showed a chunk of his money coming from businesses and parking magnates.

"Carol's report shows what we all knew, she has the support from local DC Republicans," Committee Chairman Robert J. Kabel wrote in the release.

The statement, however, downplays that more than one third of the District money came from one resident: Carol Schwartz.

Meanwhile, Mara's release implies that he is beating Schwartz in the field.

His news release focuses on his efforts to knock on doors and contact voters. "There's no doubt about it: we're poised for victory on September 9th," Mara says in the release. "We've got the financial resources we need to compete, and our field campaign couldn't be stronger."

Carol Schwartz is to blame for allowing corruption to flourish at the DC Office of Campaign Finance because one of their deceased employees Michael Simpson use to clean up her screwed ball finance filings so Schwartz showed her appreciation by looking the other way when the agency was under investigation by the FBI and a lawsuit filed against it for wrongful termination of a government witness. It is time for Schwartz to go!

Mr. Rees has made all sorts of wild accusations about the late Mr. Simpson, none of which he has backed up with proof. I will note that in Mrs. Scwartz's filing that she includes many things that other councilmembers don't including donations of food and time. It is time to let Mr. Simpson rest in peace.

Schwartz gave herself a loan, not a contribution. This means that she has only $20k left.

Also, it means that she has only raised $60k compared to Mara's $100k.

She is in trouble.

Lin L,

Go to the DC Superior Court and look up the case of Richard Mathis v. Gov of DC and all the facts I state above is a part of that case record.

Lin L, you're stupid and talking from ignorance.

Michael Simpson was Heroin addict, all who work with him knew it as well as people who attend NA at the Methadone clinic he was getting help from up on Eye Street.

Scwartz knew it too and should have used her power to have him put on leave and treatment.

Unfortunately Rees is keeping it real and at the same time knows that he was Simpson's close friend as well as a friend to several people at the Office of Campaign Finance whereby this is clearly the source of his information used to bash an elected official.

It is obvious there are some bad people who want to take down Carol at all costs. Some of them also want McCain and 100 plus more years of brutal bloody suicide and murder.
