Ward 2 ANC Calls for Elections Board Investigation

David A Nakamura

Activist Dave Mallof alerts us to a resolution adopted unanimously by the board of ANC 2B last night that calls on city officials to conduct an investigation and recount into Tuesday's primary election results, marred by a drastic overcounting of votes. Today's Post gave you an in-depth review of what happened Tuesday night, along with a sidebar about Mayor Fenty's influence over and handling of the board's management. Yesterday, D.C. Council Chairman Vincent Gray appointed a special task force to review the matter, and Fenty assigned Attorney General Peter Nickles to investigate.

Here is the text of the ANC 2B resolution:

WHEREAS, the vote count problems for the September 9, 2008 DC primary raise fundamental issues that threaten the very foundation of our democratic process;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Dupont Circle ANC 2B calls upon the District government to immediately conduct a complete investigation, recount and then promptly issue a public report with a complete and transparant explanation of the primary vote count discrepancies for Ward 2 Council and Council at Large.

Why aren't all the Ward 2 ANCs calling for a recount and thorough investigation?
