Schwartz Brings on Lindenfeld

Council member Carol Schwartz isn't just pulling out the pencils and pens for her write-in campaign to retain her seat.
She's pulling out the stops and dipping into Fenty country.
Political consultant Tom Lindenfeld -- the magic man who helped Mayor Adrian M. Fenty set a precedent by winning every precinct in the city in 2006 -- said he was hired yesterday with three weeks to go before the big day.
"I am supporting and working for Carol Schwartz," Lindenfeld said.
Hired gun or volunteer?
"I expect to be paid," he said.
How much?
"I don't think it cost that much," Lindenfeld said. (Code for wait for the campaign finance report.)
What's your title?
"I've never had titles...You can call me an organizer."
Lindenfeld said she lost the Republican primary to newcomer Patrick Mara last month because she was helping "families that were in need," referring to the Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act. The legislation makes the District the second jurisdiction in the country to require employers to provide most workers with sick leave. "There's no more admirable a thing," he said.
The business community responded by pouring campaign contributions into the coffers of Mara.
Though she lost the primary, Lindenfeld said Schwartz can make a comeback in the Nov. 4th general. "Running citywide there's going to be an enormous amount of respect," he said. She's a very independent person who has not always sided with the mayor's she's worked with."
And a write-in campaign doesn't have to be difficult, Lindenfeld said. "There's a little bit of instruction involved, but it's not beyond the ability to organize," he said

Yeah, she is "dipping into Fenty country" for his consultants but not his sensible policy positions such as real reform of the schools, positions which candidate Patrick Mara supports.

Schwartz pushed the Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act right on the eve of an economic downturn. The Chamber of Commerce warned it would kill small businesses and it took the other Councilmembers to water the legislation down.

Is she going to pay for him with taxpayer money like the rest of the folks who spend all day at her campaign office?
