Clampitt To Afghanistan
Adam Clampitt, the at-large council candidate who dropped out of the race and endorsed Michael A. Brown, has been called to duty.
Clampitt, a U.S. Navy Reserve lieutenant, said he will report to processing in Norfolk on Jan. 2 and should be in Kabul by Feb. 1. "I guess I was kind of expecting it since Obama said he wanted to send 20,000 troops to Afghanistan," Clampitt said.
Clampitt said he wanted to use his call back to duty to draw attention to voting rights. The District does not have a vote in Congress, but its residents can be called to war, he said.
Before he leaves, Clampitt said he will get a send-off hosted by Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray (D), Council member Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) and Michael A. Brown, who was recently elected.
