D.C. for Obama: "One Last Election to Win"

D.C. for Obama, a grassroots organization, helped get-out-the-vote in the District, Virginia, Pennsylvania and other places. Now, organizers Gregory Jackson and Howard Park have sent an email asking members to put in one final push--to help support challenger Jim Martin (D) in his bid to unseat Georgia Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R). They are having a special run-off election Dec. 2.

It's one example of how some Obama supporters are keeping their organizations intact, and may be a glimpse of the kind of activism to come during the Obama administration.

As the statement notes, In particular, D.C. for Obama will be "organizing phone bank parties in the days ahead. If you would like to attend one of the gatherings, please fill out our short sign up form. You may also fill out this form if you'd like to host a phone bank party for your friends."

Read the full email after the jump.

Here's the full email message from D.C. for Obama:

We need 60 votes in the Senate to block a filibuster. With a victory in yet to be decided Minnesota and Georgia, we can achieve this lofty goal. A recount is underway to decide the fate of Al Franken in Minnesota. A special runoff election takes place on December 2 to declare a winner in Georgia. Will you help Jim Martin defeat Saxby Chambliss and take us within reach of making health care affordable for all Americans? Chambliss was elected to the Senate by running a dirty campaign against Senator Max Cleland, a decorated war hero and critic of the Bush Administration. The change we need doesn't involve Chambliss in the Senate.
Sixty votes in the Senate means that the policies that Obama cares deeply about will be much easier to enact. The change that we need is within our grasp. Don't let it slip away. Pledge to help Jim Martin win his election.

Obama supporters are mobilizing around the country to help in Georgia. The Obama campaign has even opened up its field offices and staffed them with Obama for America organizers. President-Elect Obama fully understands the importance of the magic number sixty. Jim Martin is challenging the incumbent in this runoff election and he will need our help to win.

Early voting began in some counties last week. Now is the time to reach out to voters and let them know they can vote immediately. There is no need for them to wait until December 2.

Get on the phone today and make calls from home at http://my.barackobama.com/call4martin .

DC for Obama will be organizing phone bank parties in the days ahead. If you would like to attend one of the gatherings, please fill out our short sign up form at http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?key=pGZpdaMIGpzjyKveZIINdLg . You may also fill out this form if you'd like to host a phone bank party for your friends.

Now is no time to rest. Our President-Elect needs us to answer his call. I hope you'll pick up the phone.

If you'd also like to make a financial contribution to the Jim Martin campaign, you can do so at http://www.martinforsenate.com/ . I'm sure his campaign needs every dollar it can get right now.

Let's get back to work!

Do we know where candidate Martin stands on statehood for DC? And I mean statehood, not this farce of a plan to give us one token vote in the House. Seems like this D.C. for Obama group should ask that question before running off to Georgia to help someone who may turn around and screw us if elected. I appreciate the importance to the Democrats of getting to 60. I also appreciate the fact that folks are just so excited to keep "working" for their candidate in a way which helps them feel connected. But this begs the question, can't D.C. for Obama expend their energy and/or resources in helping out locally, like volunteering or organizing to make better our public schools? Oh right, Obama is sending his kids to a private school here in DC. Oh well.

WE HAVE MORE TO DO:

Democrat Jim Martin is in a runoff against Bush Republican Saxby Chambliss for the Senate seat from Georgia. Bush's Saxby Chambliss voted against spending a few measly dollars to provide health care coverage for Georgia, and Americas needy children. But he supported wasting hundreds of billions of your dollars, and the life BLOOD of Americas finest on an unnecessary war in Iraq.

At a time when 47 million of you have no health insurance coverage, and over 100 million of you with insurance are just one major illness away from complete financial destruction. Bush and Saxby Chambliss voted to make the heart break of bankruptcy relief even harder for all of you to use.

You see, Bush and Saxby Chambliss, and his family don't have to worry about their health care coverage. They have the finest health care coverage your tax money can buy for them. Courtesy of you. The American Tax payer. In fact, no one but the super rich can afford the health care coverage you the tax payer provide for Saxby Chambliss, and his family for FREE! with your tax dollars.

He supposedly works for you. But he doesn't think you and your family should have access to the type of taxpayer supported FREE health care that you provide for him, and his loved ones for FREE!. Doesn't that just make you BURRING MAD!

Vote for JIM MARTIN for US senator from Georgia. Vote for JIM Martin who will be on your side. Vote for JIM MARTIN who will work with President Obama and a majority congress for you. Vote for JIM MARTIN most of all for your-self, your family's, friends, and loved ones. Vote for JIM MARTIN for a better America, and a better World.

Don't let Saxby Chambliss make a chump out of you by tricking you into voting against your own best interest. Saxby chambliss is NOT! on your side. He's not one of you. He is on George Bush's side. And we all know what a catastrophe the Bush Chambliss administration has been the past 8 years.

Contact all your family and friends and do every thing you can to see to it that JIM MARTIN and GEORGIANS! take that senate seat back for Georgia, and America. No matter where you live in America. This is important to you. President Obama will need all the help, and power you can give him to try and fix this catastrophic mess that the Corrupt Bush Chambliss administration has created.

As I said before you will have to vote in overwhelming numbers to overcome the Bush Chambliss "Let Them Eat Cake" vote fraud machine. Vote early if you can. Then help everyone you can get to the polls and vote for JIM MARTIN. You and your loved ones don't have to be Saxby Chambliss's victims anymore.

I know you will get it done. Just like you did for President Obama.

God bless all of you
