It won't be listed on his public schedule, but Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) is scheduled to swing by the Hillyer Art Space in Dupont Circle tomorrow evening. He's one of about 10 guests invited to a small, private ceremony where his Chief of Staff Carrie Brooks will wed Daniel Kohns, a government relations and communications strategist for Public Strategies Inc.
When D.C. Wire first told you of the pending nuptials in August, we reported the the duo was planning a courthouse wedding. Brooks tells us today that plans changed in the past week; a friend was able to get Superior Court Judge Diane M. Brenneman to come out to the art studio to preside over the vows there.
"We're assuming he'll say a few words," Brooks said of Fenty. Better get his speech-writers moving. "We offered him some talking points," she joked.
Brooks, who will take Kohns' last name, will take a couple weeks off for a honeymoon, flying out Sunday for a few days in California to see relatives. Then they're off to Tahiti, spending time in Moorea and Bora Bora, before returning on Thanksgiving.
Brooks won't have access to email and phones, she said, meaning she won't be able to respond to any of the mayor's famous emails. She said the mayor told her: "You're not trying hard enough."
