DPW Suspends Trash Collection For One Day

As a result of the icy conditions, the D.C. Department of Public Works has suspended trash, recycling and bulk trash collections for one day and officials are reminding residents that it is their responsibility to clear the sidewalk in front of their property of snow that should be placed in the tree box space not the city streets.

Officials said collections are scheduled for Thursday will take place Friday and the Friday collections will take place Saturday. Agency spokeswoman Linda Grant also said that property owners are being asked to spread abrasives like salt or non-clumping kitter litter on the sidewalk to help pedestrians keep their footing and to clear catch basins and fire hydrants.

"If residents have already put their trash out it will be collected tommorow," said Grant, who is also encouraging residents to remember their neighbors, especially the elderly and the disabled, by removing snow from their steps and sidewalks.
