Council Roundtable on Stimulus Today

D.C. Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray holds an oversight roundtable today to discuss the stimulus package in the District. "Priorities for the Use of Potential Funds for the District of Columbia from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Proposals Currently Under Consideration"---whew--- is set for 10 a.m. in Room 500 of the John A. Wilson Building.

The witnesses list starts off with top city officials, City Administrator Dan Tangherlini and Chief Financial Officer Dr. Natwar M. Gandhi.

Besides dozens of public witnesses from the business community, nonprofits and advocacy groups, the list includes Brian D. Smedley, vice president at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies and director of its Health Policy Institute as well as Michael Bird, Federal Affairs Counsel at the National Conference of State Legislators.

As Washington Post reporters Peter Slevin and Keith B. Richburg write this morning, many state governments are hoping the federal stimulus package will help them balance the budget. The same is true in the District, which reporters David Nakamura and Nikita Stewart noted in a story last week.
