Debate Goes Forward in Senate on Voting Bill
Debate on the DC Vote bill began this morning with its co-sponsor, Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.), appealing for quick action.
"Let's get it done," he told a near-empty chamber. "This has strong support and the urgency of justice delayed."
Lieberman said that a vote on the bill could come as early as tomorrow. However, he said, if senators tried to weigh down the bill with unrelated amendments, Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) would move to cut off debate, probably pushing a final vote to Friday.
