Barry Reacts to Lax Tax News

The Post's Del Quentin Wilber has been reporting today that D.C. Council member Marion Barry (D-Ward 8) owes the federal government more than $277,000 in back taxes and hasn't made a payment on undisclosed taxes owed to the D.C. government since July, according to federal authorities.

Now, Barry reponds: "The U.S. Attorney is, in legal terms, piling on. The attorney knows that the hearing is scheduled for April 2, 2009. Whatever additional information he has since the last filing can be presented in court at that time. "

The Rev. Anthony Motley, a close associate of Barry's, said that even though the veteran lawmaker is "under doctors orders and is resting at home," he has every intention to comply with his tax obligation.

Barry added in his statemet: "The Special Agent and the U.S. Attorney are violating the law by releasing the specific financial information of my case. The approach that they are using goes against prosecutorial conduct. At this time, I have no additional comments."

Go to jail; go directly to jail. Do not pass go; do not collect $200.00. Go to jail (with apologies to Milton-Bradley).

Let the man have his "day in court" as is the American way!!! At least he did not fill his personal coffers, or those of his family, political party or friends as many others have done recently. The pros surely outweigh the cons with this person and his continued deeds for the people. Compared to the disclosure of recent corporate corruptions, this is minor....leave the man be.

Ok, so he cannot drag a computer keyboard and mouse over to his sickbed to do his taxes? He must be quite the invalid if he can't do that. Funny thing is, he undoubtedly has an accountant to take care of this stuff as well as a tax attorney. Why cant they just fill out the paperwork and get his signature and have hime sign a check for what he owes. Oh thats right... he is so sick he cannot even hold up a pen... funy that he is strong enough to hold up the federal government.

GO TO JAIL MARION!!!
