No More Money For Burials?
Mayor Adrian M. Fenty's budget plan is filled with cuts, and his administration appears to have looked at everything possible, including burials.
The proposed budget shows that the Fenty administration wants to save $25,000 in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner by cremating the city's unidentified dead instead of burying them.

Concernedaboutdc, I have heard some one say on a talk show on WOL say Fenty was an Atheist. I do know, Fenty is mean spirited and he will hold a grudge against you.

Unbelievable! We the people, of the District of Columbia, need to demand Fenty and his Follies refund the $50 million given-a-way for last year's Summer Youth Program.

Lets hope that those later identified are not Jewish or Muslims. There will be hell to pay should they turn out to be.
The Mayor, as an atheist, would not understand how deeply passionate some religions are against cremation.
The dead go unidentified for a multitude of reasons. This isn't a "tough decision" it is a "bad" decision when you take into account the political implications. Particularly with the Jewish community.
