Not Just Dubai: Fenty Got 'Donation' from China, Too
Mayor Fenty raised questions when he returned from an unannounced week-long trip to Dubai last month, then revealed that the United Arab Emirates government paid for his trip (though not for his wife's and kids' expenses). Turns out, the city also received a monetary "donation" from the UAE government.
That's not all. City Hall watchers might remember that Fenty went to China for the Olympics last summer. Sources now tell D.C. Wire that the same arrangement took place for that trip -- with the Chinese paying a financial gift to the city (and also possibly covering Fenty's expenses).
We're told that D.C. Attorney General Peter Nickles is preparing a report that will disclose the amounts of money involved, which apparently totals tens of thousands of dollars between the two trips. That report could be ready by Friday or early next week, sources said.
Nickles declined to comment this evening.

There goes my vote. Does he think that all of DC is stupid enough that he ran on the platform that Tony Williams was an absent mayor. Then he turns around and runs off all over the world while it's financed by other countries? He's not a diplomat, or an international player. He's the mayor. And he needs to focus on local issues.
He's skating on thin ice.

Fenty will never get a vote from me again. Many blacks in D.C. who are not pleased with Fenty will not come out to the polls and vote his a$$ out of office. There's too much apathy within the black community. Most complain, but they don't get involved.

Funny I thought Fenty was a lightweight when he ran in the DC Primary against a very accomplished experience candidate Linda Cropp. I hate to say I told you so!!!

You were right, Eric1 - I won't make that mistake again and I know a lot of other people who feel the same way.

Expect that Fenty and Peter Nickles are gonna give us a sugar-coated report that alleges this money from foreign governments was used for community development or youth projects.
Nakamura, if you really want to get a break-thru story and get your mortgage paid off, I suggest WAPO uses all of its manpower and legal resources to FOIA all email communication between Fenty, Peter Nickles, Carrie Brooks-Kahn, Veronica Washington and Mafara Hobson over the next few days. Still, that might not get you too much because most of the Fenty corruption email exchanges occur on private hotmail accounts...but the Black Berrys used are property of DC Government and tax payer financed.
Make it happen captain...

Fenty has been baught and sold, and is attempting to do the same thing for to the District. He is an underweight attempting to compete in a heavyweight arena.
One term folks, ONE TERM....
