What's the Future for Emancipation Day?
Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) has proposed ending the Emancipation Day holiday for city workers and students to save money in next year's budget. Read how the holiday went over in the city yesterday here. Also, you can vote in a Washington Post poll about whether to end the holiday. So far, 53 percent of the 810 voters say yes.

This is one of the few things I agree with Fenty on. As a parent in the district, neither my husband or I have the day off. It is a fine thing to celebrate, but not at the expense of working folk with kids here in DC.
