Council Says No More (Unqualified) Friends

The D.C. Council is set for another showdown with Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D).

Though the council Committee on Government Operations and the Environment rejected the mayor's four nominees to the Public Employee Relations Board, Fenty has asked for a vote from the full council at Tuesday's legislative meeting.

Council member Mary M. Cheh (D-Ward 3) said at a markup last week that the four nominees do not have the expertise to serve on the board, which has the job of dealing with labor unions and collective bargaining. She said there are plenty of attorneys with such skills that can be tapped for the board.

Fenty's nominees are friends and associates - James Byles, Diaa Nour, Brenda Oliver and Darryl Wiggins - following the mayor's pattern of loading boards with buddies.

"They're all intelligent, experienced, accomplished people...but they do not meet the statutary requirements," Cheh said at last week's hearing.

Meanwhile, Council member Harry Thomas Jr. (D-Ward 5) is proposing emergency legislation Tuesday to reduce the three-member quorum requirement of the board known as PERB to just one, for 180 days or until new members can be appointed.

On Friday, Attorney General Peter J. Nickles sent Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray (D) a letter saying the legislation is ill-advised. "The volume of work is beyond one person, no matter how qualified he or she may be - and the measure poses significant legal issues," he wrote.

Gray said yesterday that the council would take its chances. "Like other members, I'm very concerned about people who are qualified to do the work and those who have been nominated," he said.

But the council may have to wait a month. Gray said the nominations may be pulled from tomorrow's agenda because of a technicality with Fenty failing to submit the nominations in a timely manner. Stay tuned. A vote would show whether Fenty can muster seven council members to side with him.

Fenty operates more like a German U-Boat submariner; operating a boatload of fascist participants who will volunteer for crony worship seeking to sneak in inexperienced public relations personnel to carry Fenty’s lead ridden water kegs of waste in the name of anti union liberals to bargain away citizen involvement in public affairs.

"Council member Mary M. It was just last week that Fenty and Rhee met in self-indulgent anti-voter embellishment claiming, voters he talks with, want him to cut-out government checks and balances, and Rhee makes false allegory to her experience and expertise, closing her remarks by claiming no one needs to question her intents.

What a communist’s pair. His communist Chinese and dictator royalty under totalitarian UAE Sultan influences are coming to the light of day.

The Council needs to understand that if they agree to this, we, the residents of DC will vote them out of office. NOW is the time to stand up for the constituents that you represent. Show us that you truly have OUR best interest at heart. The ONLY way that you can do this is to VOTE NO!!!!

Here we go again and again.... a hidden agenda and move to undermind with an "iron fist" from our dictatorial and disappointing leader that strives on retaliation to those who respectfully disagree, or otherwise have a different opinion of during things correctly. Our election support did not mandate or expect this type of negative leadership in the name of change!!!!
Councilmembers, stay strong in your resistance and insistance for what is fair and proper for the benefit of our residents.... you are our last hope-- do the right thing because surely you see the handwriting on the wall by now.... He is way off track like a misguided missle leading our City to distruction, and a return to bad ways and times that we can ill-afford.

I am happy to see that some members of the council have finally remembered what their duties are. To respond to the constituents, to represent the constituents, to legislate according to the law and to maintain checks and balances. Hopefully, this is the beginning of mending fences with the public although it is late as he//. I thought we would see it with Nickles not being confirmed but the mayoral suck-ups prevailed. We can predict Bowser to support the mayor as well as Evans and Graham. Hopefully Kwame Brown will not pull that "present" crap again and that Gray has found his conscience and lost his ego. If they have finally realized how little trust the public has for them presently, then maybe for the first time we will see the committee of the whole act in the best interests of the constituents. If that is true then we will witness government vs. the "F TROOP!"

F TROOP- (Fenty's family, friends and felons) That just about covers all of his appointees.

And the negative karma continues for public officials as they bully the children around with their child curfew laws, their age restriction laws, their seatbelt laws, their laws agains gay marriage, their driving while distracted laws, their laws against prostitution, their laws against internet gambling, marijuana, etc. They just can't keep their butts out of the space and boundaries of others.

Darryl Wiggins' qualification must be his duty as a Bowser henchman. During her campaign, he approached and attempted to intimidate her detractors at public venues.

Cut from the same cloth as Fenty himself.

That’s right my2centsis, the Council needs to be placed on notice, that if they pull another Peter Nickels’ fiasco and continue to stack the deck with Fenty’s Follies, the voters in 2010 will be PRESENT at the ballot box to CONFIRM their removal from the City Council.
