Record Number Of Youths For Jobs

Today is the deadline for local youths to register for the Summer Youth Employment Program, which had major problems last year.

D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, however, has not scaled back. His administration has made it even bigger. He announced today that nearly 24,000 youths are now registered.

Those are the kind of numbers the city hasn't seen since the days when Marion Barry was mayor and started the institution. "Given the current economic conditions, we want to ensure that our youth are given optimal advantages to learn and earn this summer," Fenty said in a release.

Particularly important that record numbers of youth be enrolled; since the city is in the process of firing their parents.

That Fenty made the statement that in the face of the economic crisis and mass unemployment that these kids will be the breadwinner, while at the same time cutting 15% of the workforce of the District government (Parents), is, excuse me, ludicris. The council's silent support is just short of criminal.

We will support the program again. It will give many children exposure to careers that they don't get to see everyday.

The business community has a responsibility to jump in and help with this great program. The magnitude of it is ambitious and I applaud the administration for attempting it.

Given the current vacuous administration, thank God the council isn't delusional like Fenty! The council did propose to slash Fenty’s 2010 Summer Youth budget by $20 million. Unfortunately, Hizzoner is willing to sacrifice city services and government jobs in 2009 to prove a childish point—“my Summer Youth Program is bigger and better than Marion Barry’s!”
Where is the rationale for implementing an employment program that has no parameters? An unconscionable $30 million were misappropriated on last year’s Summer Youth Program due to Fenty’s open door policy – come one, come all, come young, come old, come from every state in the Nation!
While Fenty and his Follies are playing one-up on Marion Barry, the District’s taxpayers will experience Déjà Vu this Summer—our coffer will again be pillaged! It’s projected that in 2010--under the leadership of our wastrel Mayor--the District will face a BILLION DOLLAR deficit. If Fenty continues his irresponsible fiscal management of the District’s dollars, Déjà Vu will again visit the residents in the form of a congressional appointed Financial Control Board, as was the case in 1997.

SHAME ON D.C. AND THOSE WHO VOTED TO RECONIZE SAME SEX MARRIAGE. IT MUST BE ALOT OF COUNCIL MEMBERS WHO PRACTICE THAT SHAMEFUL ACTIVITY. WE NEED MORE CHRISTIANS IN HIGH POSITIONS. GOD IS ALIVE!!
