Barry's Legal Counsel Resigns Today
Essita Holmes, who worked in Council member Marion Barry's office as his legal counsel, resigned today.
Holmes dealt with legal issues in Barry's office, but did not represent him personally.
Holmes resignation comes as Barry is facing mounting questions about his staff contracts and the role he played in directing earmarks to certain organizations in Ward 8.
But Barry spokeswoman Natalie Williams said Holmes planned to leave Barry's council office months ago to start her own law firm.
"She already stayed three months longer than she had planned," Williams said.

Ms. Holmes was very smart to resign, very smart. She knows what the investigation will uncover.

Quite convenient? The legal industry has been hit hard by this economic down turn. I'm aware of a few that were in private practice that have taken government jobs. So what type of practice is she starting?
