Gray plans Saturday kickoff for mayoral campaign
D.C. Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray (D), who announced his candidacy for mayor three weeks ago, will hold his official campaign kickoff on Saturday at the Historical Society of Washington on K Street.
Adam Clampitt, a former U.S. Navy Reserve lieutenant and local political activist, announced Gray's kickoff in an email to potential supporters this morning.
"He is the one candidate in the race who will restore integrity and proper oversight of the mayor's office, and fight for the interests of District residents, " wrote Clampitt, who ran for the city council in 2008. "I have spent a great deal of time with Chairman Gray over the past few years, and he has impressed with me with his dedication to the city."
Gray's campaign kick-off will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday. On Wednesday evening, Gray will be holding his first major fundraiser at the Northwest home of Judith Terra, a well-known local philanthropist and socialite. Four years ago, Terra was a key fundraiser for Gray's chief rival in the race for the Democratic nomination, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty.
