Police, firefighters expected to endorse Gray
District firefighters and police officers are expected to announce shortly that they are supporting Vincent C. Gray over incumbent Adrian M. Fenty in the September Democratic primary for mayor.
Gray will endorsed by the local fraternal order of police lodge and the Firefighters Association of D.C at 11 a.m.
Like most unions that represent city employees, the firefighters and police associations have been battling Fenty over his leadership style. The police union has also questioned Fenty's crime fighting strategies.
Although unions have a diminishing impact on local elections, the police and firefighters associations will likely provide Gray with considerable grassroots resources. The endorsements may also help Gray blunt Fenty's efforts to take credit for the recent decline in violent crime in the city.

These groups don't have any clout in D.C. because most of their members live in Maryland and Virginia and cannot vote in the District. Only D.C. residents that's registered to vote can vote in September 2010.

"Like most unions that represent city employees, the firefighters and police associations have been battling Fenty over his leadership style."
Leadership style?? How about Fenty's ongoing campaign of disparagement, disrespect, disregard, and (unfair) dismissal of municipal employees?
