Construction union endorses Fenty

Nikita R Stewart

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, trailing chief opponent Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray in endorsements, picked up a major nod Wednesday from Laborers Local 657.

The union, which represents about 3,000 construction workers, announced that it is endorsing Fenty whose push for new recreation centers, schools and other facilities have kept bulldozers busy around the city.

Anthony Frederick Sr., an officer with the union, said about half of its members live in the District.

"We have a partnership with him to put D.C. residents to work. Mayor Fenty is the only candidate in the race who is supporting jobs for the residents," Frederick said.

The approval breaks Gray's streak of endorsements and may indicate that other unions could split between the two candidates who are in a contentious Sept. 14th Democratic primary fight.

In 2008, Local 657 teamed with the local affiliates of other labor groups to get out the vote on behalf of candidates. In September, they could be volunteering for different candidates.

So far the American Federation of Government Employees, the D.C. Firefighters and the Fraternal Order of Police have endorsed Gray.

The council chairman also won the endorsement of the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club, which represents lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Democrats.

"The approval breaks Gray's streak of endorsements and may indicate that other unions could split between the two candidates who are in a contentious Sept. 14th Democratic primary fight."

It also may indicate that the union was strong-armed into endorsing Fenty if it ever hopes to get more business from DC before the Sept 14th Primary.

Actually Fenty was endorsed by two unions: the Construction Union and the "Corruption Union."

"Mayor Fenty is the only candidate in the race who is supporting jobs for the residents . . ."

Is this the best reason they could offer to justify their support? Oh, yeah, it would really serve Vincent Gray very well to have high unemployment among his constituents. Can you say "desperation?"

Many of these unions members don't live and vote in D.C. elections. Their endorsements mean little, if they can't vote. Of course the construction union endorsed King Fenty. Most of their employees are illegal alien Central Americans/Mexicans (Cheap Labor). King Adrian M. Fenty supports illegal immigration and illegal aliens.

"Mayor Fenty is the only candidate in the race that is supporting jobs for the residents." Excuse me? How can that be when he's been on a roll in firing residents? As Gray said to Fenty, "How can you be so misinformed?"

This guy has no clue! He defeated his own statement with his statistics! First he says "Fenty is the only candidate in the race who is supporting jobs for the residents..." Yet, his statistics say "about half of its members live in the District" - way to go Fenty!!! Employ 50% of this union's members from your constituency and give the other 50% to residents of other states. This guy actually just supported the issues DC residents have with you - DC residents get no preference in your administration. You'll definitely earn votes with this press coverage. Whew Hoo!!!! Keep it going at this rate, and we're sure to get rid of you...and I cannot wait until you experience what so many others were dealt during your tenure - and I hope they send armed guards to escort you out of the building as well. Then, we'll wait patiently for all of the investigations to begin into you and your administration's criminal activities the past 3-10 years.

Are we serious? First, this guy provides statistics as follows: "about half of its members live in the District." Then, he turns around and says "Mayor Fenty is the only candidate in the race who is supporting jobs for the residents" So, we should feel all gooey inside because he has a partnership with Fenty to employ 50% of his members with DC residents? I'm floored again with how they insinuate we're ignorant with this hogwash they try to feed us and expect that we'll be happy with.
