Playing with the numbers finds little help for Fenty

He found Gray would still lead Fenty 52 percent to 38 percent among likely voters with six percent undecided and four percent supporting another candidate. Even if all the undecided respondents in the Washington Post poll voted for Fenty, Gray would still be ahead by eight points, 52 percent to 44 percent among likely voters.

'Underdog' Fenty says Gray's record will reverse the polls

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty said Sunday that he's the "underdog" in the Sept. 14 Democratic primary but that he believes he can fend off Vincent C. Gray once voters and the media closely examine Gray's record. "I think the truth of the matter is while a significant part of the election cycle is behind us, I think in the last 16 days of an election anything can happen," Fenty said at a news conference in the parking lot of United Medical Center in Southeast Washington.
