Gray camp responds to Rhee

Traci Hughes, a Gray spokesman, called Rhee's statement "unfortunate." "It is unfortunate that the children have been thrown in the middle of the political fray,' Hughes said. "Chairman Gray has made it very clear from the very beginning: He will continue education reform. It's his top priority already and he will put children first."

D.C. statues bill caught up in voting rights, gun law controversies

A bill that would add statues of two D.C. luminaries to the halls of the Capitol has stalled and may not make it out of the House before the end of the 111th Congress, as the seemingly innocuous measure has become snagged by the ongoing controversies over voting rights and the District's gun laws.
