Gary Williams: "Go Eagles"
And no, he wasn't talking about the American Eagles, his former prides and joys. Just when you thought this man could not possibly handle the local public relations battle with greater aplomb, some kids bait him into declaring his affections for the Philadelphia Eagles and then put the footage on YouTube. Although I guess it wouldn't affect local recruits anyhow, since Maryland doesn't recruit locally.
Anyhow, Gary is famous for emoting a positive energy of sheer happiness and satisfaction, and those sentiments come through clearly in this video. As the kids attempt to get Gary to rally behind the Philly Eagles, the look in his eyes says something like this: "Why did I open my %#$@ mouth. These kids. They probably go to Missouri Valley schools. Bradley, or Butler, or Southern Eastern *&$% Western Iowa, one of those places. I should be on a golf course right now. How many national championships have the Eagles won? These %#$& kids; do they know how hard the ACC is? That a .500 record in the ACC is roughly equivalent to seven consecutive undefeated seasons in the Missouri Valley, wherever that is? This is all Ralph Friedgen's fault. He probably put them up to this. Is that him over there? He probably went to a Missouri Valley School, too. How many national championships have these kids won? Zero, right? I've got one. I've got the ring right here to prove it. Go Eagles."
