More Adu News

The Post's Steven Goff reports that Fro Adu, Freddy's younger brother, has committed to George Mason. It'll be in tomorrow's paper.

Fro is a senior defender at Georgetown Prep. He'll enter college next fall at the age of 16. His other finalists were ACC schools. Nice pick-up for GMU and second-year coach Greg Andrulis, which hosts Bucknell tomorrow in the NCAA tournament. Can't imagine what the news of an Andrulis-Adu pairing will do to DCU supporters. Possible cataclysmic effects.

No word yet on whether Man-U will have a comment on the Adu signing.

Andrulis has problems with leading veterans, and with playing overly defensively. He actually doesn't do bad at all with young defenders (Chad Marshall's best season as a pro was under Andrulis).

Also, Sir Alex has things to say about Freddy:

The question everyone wants answered: Does fro have a 'fro?

Ok, all kidding aside...hope the younger Adu does well...and can we mark him as home grown now, with that new youth development thing?

Steven, shouldn't that read: Rimando's Royal Canadian Army?

I kid, I kid.

GMU is likely a good place for Fro. Adrulis is a much better NCAA coach than MLS.

Druler apparently is a real nice guy and it is worth noting that he was not the worst in MLS. Despite his shortcomings, his Crew won two trophies more than AFKAM, [the] artists formely known as Metro (thanks WriterEd).

However, he was absoutely dreadful on the popularity (and financial success) of Columbus Crew -- ask their fanbase, whose vitriol may have settled a bit by now. Sure they won the 2004 Supporters Shield (congrats, and many Ohio thank-yous to Terry Vaughn) only to get bounced in the first round, and a USOpen Cup (however they failed in the previous year when the USOC final was at CC Stadium). They played extremely boring futbol, like Kansas in 2000 and like New England in over 200 scoreless MLS Cup minutes -- and counting.

Good luck to Fro. I hope he becomes good enough to go pro early and not waste a couple of years with NCAA rules, a paucity of games and a lower level of skill and competition (IMO - ymmv).

I'm positive Fro's mom will keep his hat size normal. Good on her! :)

Good choice by Fro I think. and a great excuse to go see some GMU games next season!

I still think NCAA is a great place to grow defenders. Attacking players should skip college altogether, it sucks the life out of them, but that's why god made Generation Adidas.
