What You Need to Know

A Wizznut, unmasked!!!!! (Story on "Agent Zero" origins written by Dave McKenna, a neighbor and hero of mine.) And help them choose a name for Gil's new child. And the Wiz web site is using banner "Agent Zero" headline right now. The Wiz haven't beaten Miami since April of 2003, having found all sorts of ways to lose. Heat followers, meantime, are talking Iverson. A lot.

Redskins fans grouse about all the usual things while Karl Swanson talks about why the team never created Redskins-branded hot dogs. The Joe Gibbs Hall of Fame display will not be amended to reflect his comeback struggles, or successes. Carlos Rogers could "easily be in the Pro Bowl" (and I could easily win a Pulitzer), while his coach says he has the yips and his teammates plan to offer advice. The defense forces a turnover once every 99.3 snaps, and Cornelius Griffin says "30's just a number."

The transformed Nats--including new second baseman Felipe Lopez--are likely to have one of the league's lowest payrolls in 2007, when they'll play exhibitions with the O's in Norfolk and Columbus. Here's more on the exhibition slate, and speaking of RFK, MLS says "thanks" to D.C.

Congratulations, Maryland, you beat up on a Mid-Con team. Jeez, get over it. Here you can watch Karl Hobbs publicly call out the GW student newspaper, which is just bizarre. Local No. 9 Navy is still off to its best start in nearly a decade, here are a bunch of up-and-coming area DI guards, that leaving-early Maryland lineman wants to go to Iraq, and Marcus Vick is being sued by a teenager "who claims Vick deceitfully professed his love to her so she would continue to have sex with him," a teenager whom Vick was not supposed to be seeing.

Glen Hanlon says "media and fans" are responsible for bringing up the last Atlanta-Caps throwdown, but the Thrashers certainly remember it. And it would appear the blood-loving Atlanta FO does, too. As do the Caps' Web site people. And Tarik. And my paper, which ran a huge Fight Night feature. And Peerless, who presents Friday Night Fights in Atlanta. Here's the video of last time. And elsewhere, Chris Clark tells the unstoppable Ivan Carter that he can still drink beer, an ESPN football columnist says the Pens game was the most compelling sporting event he's seen this year, and a minor league hockey team has a Hanukkah promotion.

Steinbog, I think your name, DC Steinbog and CAPS INTENSITY are all spreading. This is unbelievable.

Agent Steinbog is back!!!

Posted by: Ajay | December 15, 2006 10:31 AM | Report abuse

Why is Hobbs calling out the school paper for its comments "bizarre"? You media types can dish it out pretty well. But when someone responds, it is "bizarre"?

Posted by: Joe | December 15, 2006 11:01 AM | Report abuse

Hey, I don't care whom he calls out. I would just think an up-and-coming DI coach would have bigger fish to fry than the GW Hatchet. No offense, Hatcheteers.

Posted by: Dan Steinberg | December 15, 2006 11:20 AM | Report abuse

Hobbs is keeping it real, Steinbog. Hes not gonna leave GDUB, he already turned down Cinci. When we get the 7-3 transfer next year we will be back in the Local Hoops mix.

Posted by: Juneau | December 15, 2006 11:23 AM | Report abuse

Exactly. It's bizarre because most coaches would not be concerned with comments in the "petty" school paper. But seriously, I hope my jaw is alright.

Posted by: Regis Koundjiza | December 15, 2006 11:23 AM | Report abuse

At GDub half the press the team gets is from the Hatchet so its important. Just like the DC Steinbog is to the Capitals.

Steinbog was on assignment to the Food Section.
Steinbog was never on assignment to the food section.

Doublethink is doubleplusgood. What else can I think of? Only two, so far:

It's curious that the Steinbog had more comments when Dan wasn't around yesterday than it usually gets when he is around...

Posted by: Jim | December 15, 2006 11:45 AM | Report abuse

I just hope that the Capitals invite Steinbog to the Stanley Cup parade, and the Wiz invite him to the Draft Lottery. Who wants to make DC Steinbog banners?

Posted by: Mikhail Tatarinov | December 15, 2006 11:48 AM | Report abuse

Yeah Jim, I did notice that. I figure this way I can convince the bosses that if I just don't work, we'll get more traffic.

Anyhow, more cheese interviews await, meaning the rest of the day will be spotty on my end, meaning you all should feel free to take over.

Dan (Steinbog),
Next time you see Ovechkin can you tell him that Gilbert is giving out T-Shirts and that he should do the same.

"...meaning you all should feel free to take over."

The Takeover is my plan, Steinbog. When did I authorize you to use the phrase?

Posted by: Gilbert Arenas | December 15, 2006 12:21 PM | Report abuse

First of all Biog Catcher, no wizznutzz was unmasked because that writing is all lies and second because he is no wizznutzz and third you cant unmask a wizznutzz because we keep our identities in our pants!

Posted by: Darvin | December 15, 2006 12:32 PM | Report abuse

Wow, apparently the sports writers get a little more leeway than regular beat writers to spice up their articles. Both Tarik and the AJC are pumping up the animousity a bit. Should be an interesting matchup tonight.

Steinbog, I await your missive in the Food Section like so much bated breath. Where is the culinary delight you have promised us?

And is that a Wizznutt unmasked or just an ambulatory Morrissey-esque pompadour?

Posted by: Agent_Torpor | December 15, 2006 1:17 PM | Report abuse could you let your neighbor rake all that muck? We all know that Darvin, Dana, and August are the real forces behind the greatness.

Posted by: Unsilent Majority | December 15, 2006 3:14 PM | Report abuse

Wake me when someone takes credit for the cheeseboot.

Posted by: Agent_Torpor | December 15, 2006 3:28 PM | Report abuse

WHAT? No Hanukkah (that's AP Style, right) festivities at Verizon for the Wiz-Heat game tonight??? I'm appalled. I would probably have more right to be mad if I was actually jewish...

Anyways, happy Hanukkah Bog Man. Even if I'm about an hour and a half early.

Hey, it isn't surprising that Hobbs is media - sensitive given the front page hatchet job the Post did on him last year regarding recruiting from allegedly fake high schools. While covering up the fact that Georgetown recruited from the same schools, no less.

Posted by: JD | December 16, 2006 9:39 AM | Report abuse

Next up: Hobbs will go after the Gazette writer who wrote his first name as Carl.
