What You Need to Know
While people in Denver worry about Melo and the profane George Karl, the Nuggets top the sluggish Wiz in front of a paltry crowd, including the Flying Tomato. Gil says the Nuggets play better without Melo, Reggie Evans slips on Melo's jersey and the HOF asks for Gil's garish 60-point jersey, Phil Chenier says a game like that from Gil--which earned him a second straight POW award--was "only a matter of time," and the Wiz are now 1-4 in the second leg of back-to-backers.
the struggling Lightning, who are practicing with tennis balls. Boyd Gordon has been one of the team's unsung heroes, Ovie is playing on rocket fuel, this writer calls Ovechkin/Crosby/Malkin the face of the NHL, while this guy claims Ovechkin and Crosby aren't yet superstars, which is dumb, and Peter Forsberg is still out after that Ovie hit.
D.J. Strawberry predicts people will hate Greivis Vasquez, Mike Jones is the ACC POW, Local No. 1 UVA avoids the beach while preparing to face a former teammate, Local No. 6 ODU trudges past UAB, Morgan State gets a nice win over ECU and former Hokies coach Ricky Stokes, and a transfer is about to make Loyola better. The GW women are off to one of the best starts in school history, and U-Conn. whips UVA. A Maryland football recruit plays hoops at Stafford, and Va. Tech backup QB Ike Whitaker enters treatment for alcohol issues.
Rick Snider says "it's time to trade Clinton Portis." Joe Gibbs says nope. Dave Fairbank says last week's win was an aberration, "no more, no less." The defense seems to have found itself but still needs lots of offseason help, practices have become "straight pounding," Gibbs blah blah blahs about Redskins football, and Todd Wade continues to earn plaudits. Up next, the 6-8 Rams, who are using a makeshift offensive line and are somehow still in the playoff hunt.
Manny Acta discusses his homecoming, the Nats sign Ray King and Jason Simontacchi and finalize the Vidro trade, with "good to go" Chris Snelling the most intriguing addition. And MASN could do one pre-and-postgame show for the Nats and O's.
